The Town vs Heat

Which do you think is better?

reply

The Town is definately inspired by Heat... But Heat is better... It has that Michael Mann magic...

reply

Very true, Renovatio. "Heat" seems way more believable than "The Town", to boot.

reply

I would put The Town above The Heat because of several key outstanding supportive performances by Chris Cooper and Pete Postlethwaite. Both of them are only in a couple scenes (Chris Cooper is only in one), but they are so memorable.

reply

To each their own, Mydarkstar (2), but while Chris Cooper and Pete Postlethwaite, as well as Jeremy Renner were the most believable actors/characters in The Town, I'd still put "Heat" above "The Town", because the story behind "Heat" is more believable.

reply

How is the story in The Heat more believable ?

reply

"Heat" was a far better-made and far-better acted, with far better actors/actresses than "The Town".

reply

I still don't see how it's more "believable".

reply

The robbers in "Heat" were a lot rougher and tougher than the bank robbers in "The Town", and not so sympathetic.

reply

So rougher & tougher = more believable ?

reply

Yes. I think that rougher and tougher regarding bank robbers is more believable. The Town was much more unrealistic and overblown and pretentious. In a true-to-life situation, the bandits that robbed her bank at gunpoint and took her as a hostage and then let her go would've been far less sympathetic and more than likely wouldn't have let Claire go, at least not right away.

Claire Keesey more than likely had Stockholm syndrome, as well.

Heat feels more epic and is overall the better movie but I don't think the Town is that far behind. I mean it's a pretty fucking great film. The heist scenes are really exciting and Affleck is at the top of his game. Rest of the cast is great too.

reply

The opening heist in "The Town" was quite interesting, but, as a film, "The Town" began to disintegrate in a matter of minutes, especially during the second half of the film.
