Stay in America?!

You're supposed to move out of the country where your crime took place. He's on the Most Wanted List.

reply

There's no way that another country would've accepted Doug MacRay, due to his criminal record. Asylum is only given to people who flee their countries of birth, due to persecution related to religion, race, ethnicity, political and social views, or sexual orientation. Guys like Doug MacRay with long records of violent crimes do not fall into that category.

reply

Criminals run to other countries all the time. There are notorious criminals America has never caught. Most have changed their identities.

Clark's destiny = Superman, LL &LL.

reply

Criminals very seldom run to other countries. The governments of the country or countries that criminals flee to would have no trouble looking up a criminal's name and records, country, place and year of birth. Why would the government of any foreign country accept a guy like Doug MacRay, who has a long record of violent crime and prison time in his country of birth, into their country? That's something for you to think about.

reply

You're thinking as if Doug would try to file as a citizen. If he's running as a criminal, he would avoid the government so they wouldn't be able to look him up.

reply

I still don't think that Doug MacRay would've been able to stay in the country he'd run away to for very long, despite not filing as a citizen. Plenty of people who come to this country illegally for whatever reason(s), despite keeping a super-low profile so as not to be deported end up being caught and deported, anyhow. Why wouldn't that happen in any other country?

reply

He could have fled to Ireland and just started a new life. Illegal immigration is a very real thing and with his surname and ethnicity he probably could have found a way to lay low in Ireland. Although he may want to give a fake name.

reply

What makes anybody think that even in Ireland, Doug MacRay would've been accepted, especially if he'd decided to emigrate to Ireland illegally? As I pointed out before, any government could simply look up his record.

Also, Doug MacRay needed to stay in his country of birth and eventually face up to what he did, and pay for it. Why should a violent criminal and predator like that get off scott-free? He shouldn't, as far as I'm concerned. As the saying goes

"If you can't do the time, then don't do the crime."

reply

How would he get there anyways. It would be very hard to fly there. Stowing away on a ship would be his best bet but also dangerous and high chance of getting caught.

reply

No matter which way Doug MacRay took to travel, he'd have an excellent chance at being caught, which he would've deserved.

Frankly, it would've been better if Doug had been arrested and brought to justice before the law, in the form of a long, hard term, or even a life-long term served in a Federal Penitentiary for armed robbery, assault. and first degree murder, (which he committed 2 of on top of his other crimes).

Claire, on the other hand, should've been given a suspended sentence and put on probation, with no right of appeal if she violated that probation in any way or form.

reply

They could have escaped to a country with no extradition treaty with the United States which happens in movies all the time, like when the criminals in Con Air try to escape to Latin America and where Russell Crowe escapes to Venezuela in The Next Three Days. He can easily be found in Florida so that's a weird destination for him to escape to.

reply

Doug MacRay skipped town for Florida, partly because he thought his mother might still be there, or maybe he just couldn't face reality. Frankly, Doug MacRay is a guy who deserved to be caught, forced to squarely face up to the things that he did, and to be tried, charged with, and forced to serve a life imprisonment for his crimes, especially since he committed two first-degree murders on top of all the other crimes that he committed.

Claire had no business spending stolen money on the C-Town hockey rink, either.

reply

Criminals hide out in South America and Eastern Europe and Asia all the time.

reply

What makes you so sure that they don't eventually get caught, and are forced to face justice? they should be, imo.

reply

That wasn't wise.

reply

What wasn't wise? The fact that I think that criminals who do hide out in other countries don't eventually get caught? I disagree with you here.
