so when i was a kid i used to watch the cartoon and i saw the previews to this one and the first one but i don't get where the pink panther comes in. Either way i think it's stupid but i would like to know.

The Pink Panther is a diamond in this the the original film series about a bumbling french detective. The CHARACTER of The Pink Panther was created for the opening credits of the original 1963 film and proved to be popular thus they made a series of cartoon shorts staring the panther character.

The confusion is certainly understandable. The "Pink Panther" is the name of the gem, because world-class gems are so famous they have their own names, like the "Hope Diamond." However, the pink panther animation behaves more like a mischievous cartoon character, really more like a jewel thief foiling the inspector.

Rumour is that if you were to look in the Pink Panther Gem you would see a Pink Panther, hence the name of the jewel and the films. But the actual Pink Panther Gem has only appeared in a handull of films in the series!
