Geoffrey Rush - only chance for a 'decent' Pink Panther.

Of course, he wouldn't come near Peter Sellers himself - but with a little extra voice and acting practice, he could go further than most other actors could in the Inspector Clouseau role (his performance in Life and Death of Peter Sellers, though rather crude, is indefinitely better than Steve Martin's role in any of his Pink Panther movies).

I'm dying to see at least ONE attempt made at a Pink Panther movie made with him - but I don't think Hollywood has the intelligence anymore to actually care about what fans might want.

I agree Rush would make a superb Clouseau, but by the time Martin is done wringing every last cent from the early-teen set he's aiming these parodies of the Panther series at, there'll be no goodwill for the Pink Panther left in Hollywood. Everything goes round in cycles though. I am expecting they'll make a third awful Martin effort, then we'll hear no more of the Panther for another ten to fifteen years....maybe then, they'll look at what made the Sellers films work - characterisation, chemistry and brilliant plot contrivances, as well as superb actors bringing the roles to life as opposed to merely wearing the clothes and reading lines. By then, Rush will be too old for the part, unfortunately.

It's a tender love song, very beautiful. {Whats it called?} Lick my love pump.

I did like Goeffrey Rush in the Life and Death of Peter Sellers, but I fear he wouldn't do the character of Clouseau any justice as he would be simply playing it like Peter Sellers did, it is interesting to see how different actors portray the same character.
Seller's played Clouseau very differently in later films to what he did in the first films, and Arkin played Clouseau as a wally who would shout a lot and think very highly of himself. Roger Moore in his brief Cameo in Curse of the Pink Panther, played the character differently again.
Rush would simply imitate Peter Sellers maybe, which isn't the best way to go about taking on a role!

You're an idiot.

You think that if you get someone to do an imitation of a great actor you can insure a great film? Are you completely brain addled by MTV, ET, and Dancing with the STars???

This is outrageous.

Let me be the first to break the news to you that a good film needs a good script, good direction, good editing, etc, etc, etc....

Otherwise: Hey! Let's get a real good Charlie Chaplin mimic and we'll just shoot out masterpiece after masterpiece... oh wow!!! Kuuul Doooode!!!!

-or-

Hey! I saw dis guy who looked and sounded just like Al Pacino! Let's make a new "Godfather"! ! ! ! OH, yeah!!!!

Idiot.
