Stop Criticising Aishwarya's Role

Hi

I am from India and a fan of Aishwarya Rai (well actually I love her). I don't know about the international scene but there has been a lot of rumour/gossip going on that Aishwarya'a role from the film has been reduced to what was decided. I know Indian Media loves to make such false news about her(othing new in Aishwarya's life) to provoke her to make some statements in public, but Aishwarya has never been ripped off her dignity and professionalism.

I read this news piece on a website and found it echoing my views. So I thought why not post in on the message boards of both the film and Aishwarya's profile.

Do give it a reading.

------------------------------------

Ever since the trailers of Pink Panther 2 are out, the Indian media has pounced on it to study the length of Aishwarya Rai’s presence in the film. Two frames, no two and a half, blink and you miss it, is she just a side kick? And so on.

But, honestly, why would anyone expect Aishwarya Rai to get lots of footage in the trailer? Pink Panther 2 is all about Steve Martin as the bumbling Inspector Clouseau. And so is the trailer. None of the other characters in the film are in your face, in any way whatsoever. So why should Aishwarya Rai be treated differently?

If you take a look at the Pink Panther 2 official website, the Cast & Filmmakers page has Aishwarya Rai’s picture and details among those of the nine principal characters.

The website also has five games based on five characters, Clouseau (Steve Martin), Vincenzo (Andy Garcia), Sonia (Aishwarya Rai), Pepperidge (Alfred Molina), and Kenji (Yuki Matsuzaki).

But one cannot expect balance and maturity from the Indian media. It is a past master at knee-jerk reactions and drawing pat conclusions.

An actress adopts a child, it’s a trend. Papers and news channels will run story after story on how single women today are adopting furiously before their biological clocks wind down.

A manic depressive actress kills herself. Be ready to brave stories and chats with pop psychologists about how actresses in the show business are prone to offing themselves and why.

India wins a Gold at the Olympics, and suddenly it is a major player on the World’s sports scene.

The India cricket team wins two matches in a row, it’s the best team in the world. India loses one match, it’s the worst team in the world. Ganguly doesn’t retire, he is selfish. Ganguly retires, he is the most wonderful player ever in Indian cricket. I mean, grow up!

And then there are our film critics. Most don’t know the basic rule of writing a critique: you don’t compare apples with oranges. But no, Nagesh Kukunoor’s Bombay to Bangkok will be compared to his Dor and found wanting, never mind they belong to two different genres.

Bombay to Bangkok may or may not be a good film, but if comparisons have to be drawn then it better be compared to, say, a Jab We Met or any other romantic comedy.

Whatever happened to perspective?

Hello Sir,

I must tell you that I am not stalker. Loving someone does not mean wanting to marry or sleep with her or 'stalking' as you use.

It can be respecting someone for some work that has been done or for the dignity of a person. I love her in that sense.

I know she is married and I respect that.

And may I also add, I am a harsh critic when it comes to her films. I find my friends telling me that I am so-in-love with her (like you say, tss tss..) and yet I find it hard to take to her films as great (even the ones wich others may say are).

So 'Take-A-Chill-Pill' and keep on enjoying life.

hahaha "Take-A-Chill-Pill" love it, you get him told love! =) XxX

aaaah... indeed,

STALKER ALERT!

lol...I hope the actress is net savvy and checks out this thread!!! :-)

bhavesh, we're just pulling your leg, so no need for long drawn explanations!

but I guess the actress wont have an astounding part...pretty much a face thrown in to draw the Asian population...I might be very wrong, but hey, that's what I feel/ cheers

Indian media, especially
bollywood media are retarded. Coming to the bollywood actress and actors, the majority cant act. Dont say no, because you thats true. And talking about the directors & writers, they are the worlds biggest copy cats and they should be sued by every damn movie proudction house in the world. But ey, few directors, writers are good, but like i said before. The majority of bollywood directors and writers are living in the own world, really retarded people. Even the name Bollywood is copied.

I agree with shangar87...I watch Bollywood movies all the time & I have to say that there are only a handful of truly talented actors/actresses in the industry today...Most of them are hyped up b/c of their looks...Half of them either won beauty contests or used to be models & now they act...I don't know when Aishwarya became such a media frenzy in the U.S., but her acting was always mediocre at best...I saw her in "Bride & Prejudice..." That movie was a joke...

reply

(...I don't know when Aishwarya became such a media frenzy in the U.S.)

When? ..Never. Although not for or lack of trying on her part over the last sevral yrs. She is a mediocre actress at best who's fans mostly seem to be women.

The reviews I have read so far of this movie barely mention her.

Aishwarya Rai is one hyped up fancy doll who cant act if her life depended on it. Every thing she has achieved so far as been mainly due to popular production houses or her extremely hyped up "beauty" tag of being Miss World. Its nauseating. Whats even worse is we take this "actor" and then make it look like we constantly need validation from Hollywood to ensure we are doing a good job. I say to hell with it. Who cares if her role is 2 minutes or 20 minutes in this movie. I know I dont. It wont affect the business of the movie would it? So why bother debating about it?

After she has embaressed herself and us enough times with her high school girl like giggles on Oprah and amateur cracks on Letterman, the lesser I see her from now the better.

As for you...chill.

Finally someone smart enough to know Aishwarya can't act. BTW she's a bitch did you see her on interviews. RUDE

reply

She really isn't much of a good actor on the world scale. Looks aren't everything in Hollywood, though they may help you get in the tight circle. In India she may be the biggest thing since sliced roti, but she has a long time to go in America.

sliced roti?

Haha, seriously, you need to re-evaluate the B.S you typed. Luckily, IMDB has an "Edit" option, for those convoluted ones like yourself. You clearly brought into context everything that started Aish's career, but nothing as to what propelled it. Aish has been successful because she created and represents an image of beauty and talent. Watch her interviews and listen to her dialect. She is an independent, affirmative beauty. So stop hating, and get a life. eZ

Well, maybe. Except if she starts excepting nude roles. :>

reply

I agree. Everyone keeps talking about Aishwarya Rai like she is some sort of Meryl Streep acting wise. She is not. I don't say she is bad but she is so hyped up it's, as you said, nauseating. I mean so many American directors literally BEG her to star in their movies, however every ''Western'' project she has chosen so far was crap. I have never ever seen an actress with a worse judgement. Saying no to Mr. and Mrs. Smith, Troy and Rush Hour 3 (given not really good movies quality wise but at least assured hits that would get her better roles in Hollywood) and saying yes to The Las Legion and Pink Panther 2?!?!

FINALLY SOMEONE TELLS THE WORLD WHAT A TRUE INDIAN MEDIA IS!

It Also copies everything from the western world.

reply

(that Aishwarya'a role from the film has been reduced to what was decided.)
Man I hope so. The less the better.

Why does Hollywood feel the need to indulge in remakes after remakes? Rai wont ever win a Oscar for her acting, but then again she picks roles like these so obviously she knows her limitations as a actress. She's pretty but her talent is average at best but shes in good company in Bollywood with the other pretty but bland actors. Don't get me wrong there are great movies from India, just avoid Bollywood (generic dance and song numbers) and you will be amazed by the talent (check out Parinetta (sp?)). Whether her role is large or not, this movie wont really get any attention, and hopefully flops hard. Hollywood needs to stop with these bad remakes.

reply

Bollywood!! Hooray, hooray for Bollywood!!

No one cares about Aishwarya's role. No one cares about this god awful movie.

Peter Sellers is spinning in is grave. Steve Martin has made 2 good movies: Planes, Trains, and Automobiles and Dirty Rotten Scoundrels. Both sre 20+ years old.

They should ask Rick Moranis to star in a remake of Dr. Strangelove because he was funny in Spaceballs. It'd be just as logical.
