Nowhere near as funny as the first

My wife and I were HUGE fans of the first Pink Panther film with Steve Martin. We just rented Pink Panther 2 on blu-ray. Unfortunately, we were extremely disappointed. We like slapstick humor, and during the first one there was something very funny in just about every scene. So many quotes from Martin's Clouseau in the first movie were memorable (example "He is NOT pushing up daisies...he is DEAD!"), but we just didn't get much of that in Pink Panther 2. We didn't think there were even as many ATTEMPTS at humor in the new movie.

I'm just curious; how many of you who loved the 2006 movie were thoroughly disappointed with this one? I know it's common for sequels to be inferior, but I don't even feel like they "tried" much with this one.

Well, I thought both new PP movies were crap.

But, compared to each other, I thought this second one was far better than the first. In the first one, Martin played the character as if Clouseau was patently stupid and that was just wrong.

Sellers always played Clouseau as a brilliant policeman but simply unaware of his surroundings or what the social norms were for any given situation. This is where all the humor came from.

In this second movie, Martin does play the character as a brilliant detective that simply is unaware what social graces are needed in any situation.

I agree with you fully. I really liked the first one with Steve Martin, but was terribly disappointed with the sequel, unfortunately.

Eh, I kept my expectations low, cause sequels are more often miss than hit when it comes to recapturing the first one. I laughed a good bit, but it really lost steam after the flat scene with the pope. Disappointing yes, but I didn't expect it to be as good as the first.

I agree that the first was funnier but the second wasn't really a disappointment in my eyes.

No change of heart, a change in me.

I just rented the movie last night and I thought the first one was a lot more funnier than the sequel was. I could not wait to see the sequel and my hopes were high that it was going to be as comical as the first movie. The sequel was still good and I liked it but I did not laugh nearly as much though.
