Huge female following. But Rai's Holywood films have been flops. Acting lessons might help.

Wanting to know since I am a Gong Li fan. Since Li is the most important, best actress (and beautiful IMO) to come out of China. You are not gonna find a lot of Ziyi fans in China.
As far as I know Rai, as well as Gong Li and Ziyi Zhang have not been that successful in Hollywood.

I felt that she did a good job in this film but I would have rather have seen them get someone who is more well known than Aishwarya Rai was to be honest with you. I know who she is because I have heard about her but she really has not done any film to make her stand out like other actresses have.

I am an Indian, and Aishwarya trying to showcase Indian talent in HW is a shame.
We have Irrfan Khan, Freida Pinto, Tabu, even Anil Kapoor now to showcase Indian talent.
I would send Shabana Aazmi, Madhuri Dixit(for dance), Sridevi, Juhi Chawla, Tabu, Kajol, Rani Mukerji, Naseer-ud-din Shah, Irrfan Khan, Konkana Sen Sharma, Ranvir Shourey to HW than the green eyed bimbette to familiarise HW people with Indian talent.
Freida, Anil have been noticed after just one film!!!! And how!! They are bigger stars in HW now than Aishwarya who tried her luck in HW agaian and again by saying that she is the biggest Indian star.
And they are good actors. Anil has been doing wrong films in India, but whenever he did one right film(Chameli ki shaadi, Eeshwar, Lamhe), he was phenomenal.
Now dont try so hard to prove that she is here to stay and all, as even Indians know that she is not a good actress. She worked due to SLB films, but has been disastrous ever since. Dont give examples of Sarkar raj, Provoked(it was a critical failure as well as it earned her acting wishier, washier, wimpier adjectives), Raincoat(only deglamorise does not mean a great film), and blah blah to support ur cause.
Imagine, if these roles would have been played by other talented actresses, tehy would have become masterpieces.
Aishwarya in HW is what Meera(the Pakistani chick) was in India. They had better actors in Pakistan, and we have much better actors and dancers in India.

No, she got few HW films due to aggressive campaign by her PR after the Cannes festival which showed Devdas. She was Miss World for 8 years before SLB took Devdas to Cannes, when she had arranged a good team of PR. Why did she not get noticed for those 8 years even after giving hits like HDDCS and Taal?
Irrfan Khan has done better roles than her in his HW films, and got respect as an actor too.
Even Meera got few films with Mahesh Bhatt banner in India, that does not make her the best actress in Pakistan. The better actresses of pakistan never tried for Indian films. We know it was her PR working in India.
Do not act too innocent to understand simple things, just to show Aish in a better light.
Funny u ask that-I am convinced that is one of the main reasons she is as famous in India as she is-the eyes. God knows what the big deal is but the Indian population digs it for some odd reason and has made a goddess out of her.
Personally-I think she is the most overrated actress Bollywood has ever seen. She cannot act for her life and her looks aren't anywhere close to deserving the supposed 'most beautiful woman in the world' title that she is given time and time again. Then again that title in itself is lame-unless one has managed to have seen every woman on this planet it really doesn't make sense to make such declarations.

Agreed 100%... Aishwarya cannot act to save her life. Watching this movie was painful enough but to see her supposed acting?? HORRIBLE !!!
I would say this though, she does an okay job in Bollywood movies but when it comes to Hollywood... she seems VERY fake and rather uncomfortable in delivering lines in English. It's like she becomes very self conscious and screws it all up!

Having recently seen this movie I had to say something about one of the worst performances in an otherwise well acted movie with subtle performances.
Aishwarya's just a plot element in a movie where every character is somewhat goofy in their own way. She tried to play her character straight(meaning reciting her lines) which is best considering her abilities and even then she failed. Atleast actresses playing bimbos in hollywood or bollywood movies do add some wickedness to their characters. The highlight of her performance is the way she says "ME!" when shes accused as being the thief as if someone asked her whether she farted or something.

Sad, but true. She really needs to invest in some acting leasons with a good teacher. Seriously.

I thought she was OK, I mean her nationality was never (purposely) explained. Anyway it is not like this movie was Hamlet or anything. It's just freaking Pink Panther 2.
Besides (SPOILER) when she fired her gun she did not even blink and usually this is the number one mistake actors make. I give her some points for that.

I'm an Indian; and I'll say leave conventional actors in their turf. Chinese, American, French, Indian, blah..blah.. Every actor (conventional; theater artists are more versatile, I think) follows a particular style from expressions to dialogue delivery. So whatever 'acting lessons' we provide to a foreign actor/actress; it will be worthless..
Everyone talking about that 'Pinto' chick is forgetting that she has almost zero acting experience in Bollywood even; so she is less 'over-expressive' (that is an essential part in our movie industry :D) Mrs. Rai has been acting (quite poorly if you ask me) for the last 10 years or so; and now; nothing can be done to 'change' her traits as an actress; for foreign adaptation. Even in 90% of her roles in BW; she performed as if she is putting way too much effort into it and almost every effort seemed quite..(??).. 'artificial' [a flick called 'Rain Coat' was an exception; she did good in that one..]
And while talking about Mr. Anil Kapoor; he too is sort of 'over-acting'; and that is nothing but the baggage carried over after being a lead star in BW.
One name that comes to my mind as someone who can be quite effective in HW too is Mr. Naseeruddin Shah. His role in that 'extraordinary FREAKS' didn't do much justice to his talent.
