"If you shake a film, 10 minutes will fall out"

A famous quote from editor/director Don Siegel in reference to editing a film.

I honestly don't think this film suffers terribly from a 'lack of Godzilla/monsters'....in my opinion, the film just needed a decent 'shaking'.

If you make this film 10 minutes shorter...I think that punches up the pacing dramatically. If Godzilla is revealed in Hawaii 5 minutes sooner, and resurfaces in San Francisco another 5 minutes sooner...I think the balance and pacing of the film becomes that much smoother...and you never hear a lot of the complaints about the lack of Godzilla screen-time.

It wasn't that there wasn't plenty of monster action in the film, it was a relativity thing, Godzilla's screen time as a percentage of the overall run-time of the film.

Never heard that quote before, but I like it.

Totally agree. This film could use ten minutes or so shaved off its runtime, especially during the second act following Godzilla's appearance in Hawaii.

And I generally think this is a fairly well-paced film. The restraint and buildup work really well overall, but the setup for the third act didn't need to be as long as it was in the film.
