Disappointing. 6.5 is a deserved rating.

While much better that '98, this is still one disappointing flick. While it does feature beautiful cinematography, atmosphere, and a great musical score by Desplat, the rest of the film is so bad.

The characters are trash-tier blandsters or are killed off 30 minutes into the film. I kinda chuckle when people still try to defend that choice. Awkward pacing, MUTO's out of nowhere (aka lying marketing) and a movie that loves to show Godzilla in darkness and shadow. How embarrassing.

Thankfully, Shin Godzilla is making waves and is the film that some of us have been waiting to see for a long time.

I'm giving his analysis a 10 just to balance all the low ratings from people who probably never even read his reply.

That's funny. Good one!!

6.5 is waaaay too generous.

The movie doesn't completely fall apart. There are some merits to it.

reply

Yes, there are merits to this film. The entire film is ripe with tension and suspense. Bryan Cranston tears his heart out in all his scenes. And when the Big G finally dukes it out with the MUTOs in SF, it's glorious. Gareth Edwards is a master visualist, which makes me think I may have been a bit too hard on him.

And 5.3 is way too generous for Godzilla 1998.

What do you think of the previews for Edwards' Rogue One?

reply

It deserves a 5.5 rating, awful movie.

This was far better than the dog crap that was the '98 version.
