Why Godzilla 2014 Was A Letdown

I am a big Godzilla fan, and I thought this movie was a letdown. Before I dive into the negatives about this film, I want to talk about the positives to this film.

The positives: The film is ripe with atmosphere and suspense. Bryan Cranston tears his heart out in all his scenes. And when the Big G finally dukes it out with the MUTOs in SF, it's glorious. Gareth Edwards is a visual artist with interesting angles and a good sense of scale and clarity throughout.

And now the negatives: The characters not played by Cranston are one-dimensional bores with wooden acting. I didn't care for anyone outside of Cranston, or the Big G. That's a shame. Plus, the script was riddled with plot holes. And the pacing is just awful. That's what happens when you let Max Borenstein near paper and a pen. I mean, look at his resume and you'll see what I mean!

Thank God that veteran filmmaker Tony Gilroy is doing the script (and second unit directing) for Edwards' "Rogue One", which looks to be the Star Wars prequel we deserved in 1999.

Why nobody cares about your opinion.

I'll start with the positives....

Now the negatives.

You literally just echo what others have said. In no point did you say anything some other naysayer hasnt already said.

Just because you have an opinion doesn't mean it has to be shared.

Then what are these boards for?

Nobody cares, huh? Then why did you respond?

The other characters were not one-dimensional bores and their acting was not wooden. Have you known someone who has lost a parent and not dealt with it well? I thought Aaron Taylor-Johnson did a fantastic job. When he echos the words of his father, "whatever it takes", I cry every time I hear that line. And when Sally Hawkins gets upset as she talks about, I believe, the dormant spore the Americans took, I really feel for her. I also thought Ken Watanabe did an excellent job. Really all of them did, including Bryan Cranston.

The pacing was just fine. I enjoyed the slow buildup leading to seeing Godzilla in full view.

I am not aware of any plot holes. If you are going to complain about something in a movie, why not list examples of that?

I thought Max Borenstein did a fine job as a writer. And you seem to have forgotten that he was not the only writer on this movie.
