comas

i don't expect anybody to reply, but i just have to say it. what if this actually happens when you go into a coma (the dreaming, not the actual scenario). i mean, there's no brain functions in a coma right? i could be wrong. anyway this movie really turned me off to the whole putting-myself-in-a-coma idea, but now i am all for taking people off life support.

The brain needs to remain active to live. That is why we dream. We have no way of knowing what one suffers while in a coma.

reply

Well there must be someone out there that was in a coma and came out of it.

Google it!

It's important to remember that there are different types of comas, with different levels of brain activity.

If you are dreaming, there is (high?) brain activity and rapid eye movement. While the film plays brilliantly with the fear of helplessness and disease, if you're in a coma without brain activity, you're not dreaming or having sublime nightmares. So it's just fiction!

I don't know if there are comas with normal (dream like) brain activity. But still then even with brain damage, the chance that you are trapped in a psychotic state are rather low. If you are dreaming in a coma, you'd most likely dream many different things and forget about them again too.
