I just saw this movie, and while I get the general gist of it, there some things that I'm still confused about.

What is the meaning of Zoe's "Tree of Life" tattoo?
What is Mandingo supposed to represent, and why was he torturing George? (When he said "I'm the weight on your chest" I was thinking of the mythological "mare", but that's all I caught.)
What was with the falcon and eagle cry? Are they related to that "Dr. Falcon" guy that George's son was watching?

Almost four years later, but what the hell! Maybe you're still Out There.

An opinion re only one, I'm afraid. I believe George is realizing his greatest fears, one being the White Man's Guilt that tells him that the repression and much worse treatment of blacks will come back to bite him in the ass one day. Mandingo is the burden he carries, and the enactor of his retribution.

(I was awakening in the hospital from anesthesia when I watched this, so I'm not crystal-clear on a lot of it. Maybe not the best time and place, but it's what was on.)
