Reminded me of Pathfinder

So i saw Conan the Barbarian recently. I thought it was a solid action movie, nothing special or incredibly terrible. However, as I was watching it, the cinematography, musical score, brutal action and attention to graphic detail reminded me of Pathfinder, another solid action movie that came out a few years ago. I am assuming same director? However I am not the only one who noticed this?

It was the same director.

It was the same director.

I Didn't know that. No wonder they are so similar.

No wonder the men Conan rights as a boy look like Iroquois/Mowhawks. Must have had some costumes left over...

Sorry, it's "fights"; slip of the finger...

Really?
But Pathfinder was a reasonable film, if I recall... Not amazing enough that I remember much of it from however long ago I saw it, but reasonable nonetheless. So what happened with Conan 2011 to make it turn out so naff, then?

I liked pathfinder a lot more than conan, though. It wasn't bad, per se, but the villain seemed dull and unremarkable, and the story tied up his origin too neatly. As well, the scale was ridiculous. In the original, thulsa doom was not bent on world domination, and conan's village did not conveniently harbor the crucial piece of your fancy world-controlling macguffin. If they make another, they need to establish thoth-amon as a major threat.
