Woody Allen references!

There where a ton of Woody Allen references in this movie. Obvious ones like the Dianne Wiest joke.

Also the scene in the restaurant where she meets up with Jesus years later was right out of Annie Hall. The scene on the street where the narrator meets his ex-wife was out of a Woody Allen film.

Even the lying Rhino scene was a reference to Broadway Danny Rose with the old Jewish vaudeville types telling the story!

Hmmm...I picked up a different reference for the restaurant scene. All I could think about was a scene in "y tu mama tambien" that played out exactly the same way. Oh, and the dramatic narrator! Cracked me up.

yeah it was definitely 'y tu mama tambien' but there's a lot of woody allen in this movie too.

According to the director's commentary, David Wain confirmed the scene in the restaurant where she meets up with Jesus was based on the scene in Annie Hall.

And FYI Y Tu Mama Tambien was made AFTER Annie Hall. Any thought that the scene in Y Tu Mama Tambien was a reference to Annie Hall?

reply

Oh absolutely. The whole tone of the movie is straight out of old Woody Allen style. At one point Paul Rudd looks at the camera and says "Thanks to Woody Allen" or something. I loved it.

It was also similar in parts (like Thou Shall Not Steal) to EYAWTKAS (BWATA)
