It baffles me..

How unrealistically passive the family was when they realized what was happening. They had so many opportunities to fight back and even escape yet they didn't. There are many other reasons why I hated it but that one is the most obvious to me.

I agree. I would have ripped those choir boys heads off!

Let's be real here. Put yourself in their shoes, would you fight back knowing you have no knowledge of their intentions or intended next move? *Gets up to fight back or run* *Suspect pulls out weapon and whacks you in the face* They know you will run.

Everybody has an ideal plan in their head but of course nobody actually knows what they'd do. I think once the dad was hurt any plan involving running away would've also meant leaving the husband there and Anne cared too much about the 2 Georges.

I'd love to see you in the moonlight with your head thrown back and your body on fire.

You fight back, plain and simple!

One of the reasons I hated it is when Tim Roth says to Naomi she needs to call someone once they reach the phone. Naomi then asks: ''Who"'? Really, who? Your son is dead and you've just been tortured for hours. How about calling the cops perhaps?

reply

Look dude who the *beep* would be in their right mind if your son got killed 5 minutes ago

reply

Listen......any one can fight back. let's say for example you were fighting with me, you would fight back! But here's the thing would u win? No cuz i m much strongerstronger than u .

Don't be too baffled. The film's family characters are essentially lab. rats to be used in the funny games that Haneke wants to play in your head. The frequent breaking of the fourth wall lets us know that no one was ever getting out of there alive (unfortunately). Haneke always was insistent that we as an audience contemplate the senselessness of random violence and therefore not be distracted by unexpected heroes and personal salvations.🐭

I stand by my point. If you have a psychopath in your home a thing called fight or flight would kick in. That didn't really happen in this movie. I only saw it once and will never watch it again so my memory is a little fuzzy. There's a part where she's left the house and she's running down the road and instead of hiding she approaches the first car that comes along that happens to have them in it. Instead of running into the woods she stands there in front of the car with a dumb look on her face. Whatever the original director and remake director were trying to do fails in my opinion. This is one of the worst movies I've ever seen.

"How unrealistically passive the family was when they realized what was happening".

But when was that? Even when the guys come up with their so-called "bet", one is liable to try and believe it's just a sick joke... because killing folk for no reason whatsoever just don't add up for a normal person. And when it does begin to sink in a few minutes later, Roth attacks them and as a result ends up even more completely incapacitated and Watts is tied up. That much about "fighting back".

I think that's the main point of the film. It asks the question - What would you do? Fight, flight or submit?

It's easy to say "I wouldn't behave like that, I would fight back", but the reality can be quite different.

I just watched this for my first time and I hated it lol what a dumb movie. The family was stupid for not fighting back, I would not let anyone do this to me, I would fight back until I'm dead. You don't allow someone to do this to you, they all just accepted their deaths. If you are going to die anyway why not go out fighting? But I guess there are plenty of cattle in the world for people to take advantage of like this, no wonder politicians prey upon them as well.
