Original vs. US

Why exactly do so many viewers complain about the quality of the remake compared to the original?
If you liked the original, but disliked the remake, what is the basis of your opinion?

The problem with the remake is the choice of actors. Using well known faces like Naomi Watts, Tim Roth and Michael pitt lessens the impact of the entire film and ruins it. Besides this problem with known actors ruining the relative realism and thus impact of the film and it's points, remakes are in and of themselves pointless. This renders Funny Games 2007 a poor, pointless insult to moviemaking in general.

Then, I take it, you`re having an equal amount of trouble watching any mainstream Hollywood productions...? It`s more like your problem, really and you`ll urgently need to work on this suspension of disbelief thing.

Incidentally, I think acting in 2007 film is impeccable and the same can be said about the direction in general as suspense and claustrophobia are palpable. Difficult to improve on either aspect. All the movie`s problems are script related and therefore equally shared by both versions, which makes watching the 1997 version quite pointless.

What a stupid reply. Ulrich Mühe and Susanne Lothar were both VERY well known actors in Germany. Pulling Watts and Roth would just be equating what Haneke had already done with the first film.

The fact is, this film is a replica of it's predecessor. The ONLY reason for you to dislike this film would be for the acting itself, or because you hate the English language. In reality, people who dislike this film to the extent of 'bashing' it on the boards are just self righteous snobs.

And this is all coming from someone who, if I were to sit down on a Saturday night, would hold preference to watching the original.

I have not seen the original yet (don't worries I will soon) but I really liked the remake. I knew the actors but that faded away about 25 mins in and I just saw them as people. And I thought the psychos seemed really realistic in there chemistry
