A vegetarian message?
Has anyone noted that the only on screen violence--eg, visual harm to flesh--is when Anne is blithely slicing up the steaks for dinner while chatting on the phone. In that scene she appears very capable, even predatorial--which she most definitely is (as all flesh eaters are). Interesting, when the tables are turned, and she and her family become docile cattle for their predators. Not sure if this is one of Hanake's messages but it struck me afterwards when I thought about what was depicted and what wasn't. And why.
