Why would they have a computer at the summer house they in all likelihood rarely visit? And not everyone has a laptop.

This reads in the FAQ: "The film is a shot-by-shot remake of the original."

That being said; original was 1997 and holiday home resided in Austria. Not really that common.

The original was set in Australia, not Austria. The remake was not set there.

Yeah it was a holiday house, not their primary residence. Most (if not all) internet providers offer internet where you pay every month. Why have an internet connection when you would only use it for 2 weeks a year?
