did i watch a censored version?

everyone's making this movie seem really violent and brutal and disturbing, etc. so i gave it a try last night and there was literally no violence on-screen. i mean yeah, what those guys did was brutal but nothing they did was seen, just implied. i watched it on netflix by the way (iceland)

I can tell you now if I walked in and my wife was visibly upset like she was I would have said Leave! If they hesitated in the least and didn't start for the door immediately I would have given the closest one to me an uppercut and laid him out. Then if the other one didn't start running after that he would have been laid out right then too. Then they would have been dragged out to the end of my driveway and I would stand there until the regained consciousness with my glock in my hand. If they then put a single toe on my property I would unload the entire magazine into them both. But, I'm from Texas and I'm not some northern pussboy who goes sailing.

Alaska here, and my thoughts exactly lol There should've been guns stashed throughout the house, too. So when she was tied up on the couch, she could've reached into the cushions and grabbed one.
But it shouldn't have even gotten to that point in the first place.

The point of the film was the opposite of what viewers expected. That was the director's intention. We are so used to seeing violence on-screen that this film does the opposite as a way to criticize people's need to always see the violent results!

I haven’t seen the remake in a while but I think they intentionally avoid the explicit violence bc the point is that we expect to see it but it’s one of many things the director denies us. So the director wants you to think about what’s missing and why you expect it.

reply

Yes exactly, it's kind of refreshing and original actually NOT to see the violence like in all other similar movies, even without the violence it's super dark, cold, and creepy so it shows the movie is really well made.

Is that why the husband did absolutely nothing to protect his family, because we expect him to?

And why they didn't arm themselves after the bad guys left, because we expect that they would?

The boy did run up the stairs, though, which we definitely all expected.
