Is it better than Hitchcock's version?

I saw the original, and I was wondering if anyone here has seen both, and they rate in comparison to each other.

What do you mean by "original"? The Coward's screenplay or Hitchcock's film?
The new film isn't remake of Hitch's I think.

I'm acquainted with the three of them. Must warn - all that's they have in common - are rather characters. Because the problems and reasons are quite not the same at all.

The play is maybe the weaker one, because its main point -
old English family (well, only the mother in fact) shown rather unreasonable suspicious towards this completely stranger, John's new wife. But as we might guess in the end - they were quite right. The new Mrs Wittaker had something to hide.
But we never knew what exactly! She apparently suffered no shame or regret about her past. Divorced, and a lot of lovers? Maybe, but why, and who was she, where was born and lived - silence.
I think the plot is weaker than his "Relative Values" of 1952 - but the main point in EV of 1923 is nearly quite the same. It surprised me in this aspect.

Because first of all three I saw was Hitch's film. I was greatly impressed. It's very powerful in it's plot and especially in main ideas. He's depicting one of the most important problems of his time.
Because it's about the woman divorced without the guilt - as such. Divorce without some serious reason and suit was an impossible thing back then.
Larita was absolutely innocent and very unhappy in marriage. Accused without reason as unfaithful and divorced. Divorce then - was a shame and the woman never allowed into society again. Even if innocent - well, as we can see in the end of the film - The Society is never wrong - Larita must be quite born whore if she's capable of leaving now her second husband with... with - sure! - some new lover.
Only we can see the main reason she's leaving in such show-off a way - to give John the reason to divorce her in most easy way possible and even without her presence at all.

Well, the new film you can see, right? It's more rich in problems, but is more lightweight in the same time. And quite present-day in whole, but thanks God.
I like it very much. Enjoy!
