Scott Thomas.... was I the only one who thought she was...

absolutely dreadful in this film, I got the impression she'd rung up her good friend Maggie Smith and asked how to play the role, and Maggie must have said something and Kristin tried to be Maggie Smith and couldn't do it.....

Actually, I agree with you Dame1000. I like Scott Thomas a lot (she would be good with telephone numbers...) but I thought she gave an un-original, relatively dull performance in this.

I know - I ADORE Keeping Mum. One of my favourite films. Like I said, I think KST is great, wonderful actress, I just don't think she shines in this.

No she didnt quite convince me either, especially in her earlier scenes.

If anything i thought her performance was too basic. She didn't bring any subtley to it at all. She was just 2-dimensional and flat. I'd have prefered Emma Thompson in the role!

Emma Thompson can do anything! Good call. But I do think Kristin Scott Thomas was decent in this role.

She over-acted. Pure and simple. The director should have reigned her in a lot more.

reply

If you watch the DVD extras she says how the director encouraged her to be more 'disney witch' so she as directed to go overboard.

reply

The director also said none of the cast had any rehearsals.
