shareI can understand that it wouldn't appeal to a teenager

I find it close to impossible to fathom how someone could walk out of a movie half way, no matter how bad it may seem. Especially with this film.
It's a bit like hearing the first line of a joke and walking away before you hear the punchline.
Kids these days are strange.
@ 'rampaging bu' ... you said, "I find it close to impossible to fathom how someone could walk out of a movie half way, no matter how bad it may seem."
i disagree with you because if a film aint at least reasonably entertaining by the half way point in a film, it's pretty much not going to get better to the point where you will end up liking it even if the ending turns out 'decent'.
because i figure with your average 2hour movie, if it's not at least 'watchable' (i.e. keeps your interested at least somewhat) around 40-45minutes into it... odds are the film aint going to be worth watching, especially not to the point where you would care to ever watch it again in the future.
you also said, "It's a bit like hearing the first line of a joke and walking away before you hear the punchline."
i think that's a bad example to be honest... because a joke is something that might take a minute or two to tell where as a film is 2 hours long and if your bored quite a bit 45minutes or so into the film odds are the film just aint going to get realistically better to the point instead of it being boring, you would say 'that film was actually decent'. hence, you walk out (or stop watching it) ;) (a film i seen recently i could not finish watching because it's just not interesting AT ALL is 'RocknRolla' (2008), as it's pretty dang boring which was surprising since i liked Guy Ritchie's other films like 'Snatch' & 'Lock Stock' & 'Revolver')
p.s. i have not seen the film yet so i wont comment to much about it but im going to get a hold of it soon and watch it. (im pretty much only watching it because Jessica Biel is in it though as she's quite attractive ;). but who knows the film could end up being good... and no i typically dont get bored with films in general because even though i have turned off films around the half way point before it's pretty uncommon for me to do that unless the film is quite boring.... from a guess off the top of my head i expect to give 'Easy Virtue' around a 6/10 (7/10 or higher is when it starts getting good with me in general))
im 29 years old.

Congratulations! This seems to be one of the very few movies on IBDM where some teenager hasn't said (unlike yourself) "I didn't like it", rather than the more usual comment that "This is absolutely the worst movie EVER made".
With a little luck, you'll have started a new trend.
I'm an old fart and I didn't like it much, either.
I didn't "not" like it, more like I agree with some others that it tried hard, but just wasn't very interesting and I guess I was expecting more.
I put that down to the weak characters. They were all cliches (although when the play was written they weren't) and nothing was relly done to bring them to life.
It was all kind of bland. A good example was the scene on the couch with the dog.
What should have been shocking and funny was just...too long and (here's that word again) - boring.
Your opinion is worthless if you didn't watch the film in its entirety. Next...
shareThat's a bit harsh.
I watched it in it's entirety and it still wasn't worth it. Really boring. Nothing I could really put my finger on, just not a great film. I would have walked out but I thought the friend I was with was enjoying herself... turned out she was just as disappointed as I was.

I watched it yesterday in the cinema. And yes, I have to agree. It was boring as hell ... the characters, the jokes, the plot, the story, the ending. All clichés ... most clichés are true but they are not funny or interesting anymore.
What is funny about her sitting on the dog? My 3 year old nephew might have laughed. Biel is playing non-convincing in this movie and she could not even make me smile a little.
I have to say that some minority in the theatre laughed loud sometimes. I did not get why ... not even one joke or scene was amusing.
Wasted money and time.
Its not a very funny or lighthearted comedy,
I do not think it aims to be.
On the contrary its very British as least to my German mind ;)
The humor does not entice loud laughter
but more that special kind of torturous shameful giggle about something entirely improper.
A love for the period, an unmodern amount of patience and a dark sense of humor and taste for irony might be required to really take delight in this movie.
I can very well understand that some people find it unfunny and even unbearable. Yet on the other hand I personally have problems to enjoy or bear a lot of the normal blockbuster comedies. This is simply a matter of different tastes, nothing else.
"I shall enjoy passing on the good news, Sir."
I nearly died over that sentence and of course the Tango before:)
I do like period pieces, dark humor, and irony, but I didn't love this film. I thought it was okay, I think my biggest problem was with Biel in the role. I enjoyed the costumes, they're always fun to look at.
shareI was bothered by the cliches, but I didn't find it boring. Though their performances aren't going to win them any prizes, I thought Jessica Biel and Colin Firth made their characters interesting enough to keep my curiosity about what they were going to do alive.
What a waste of Kristin Scott-Thomas as a one-dimensional bitter harpie, British upper class edition!
Sorry, but I thought **SPOILERS** the dead dog scene was funny, but only for the first two minutes.
Maybe it's the british humour some people just don't like. I thought it was a very entertaining movie. It's not a laugh riot or anything but I don't think it tries to be.
Frankly, I don't get how people can walk out of movies either. Well I do, but it has to be REALLY bad for me to even consider it. I think it's people's low attention spans that has them running out the moment they find the credits 'cliche' and whatever else.
Big Gay Al, it has recently come to our attention that you are gay.
I have never hated a film so much that I've walked out, but hey, we're all different. And I really liked this - I agree with your comment, apocalypse_please24, about it not trying to be a laugh riot. I think the scenes which are all about emotions, like Jim telling Larita about his past in the garage, & the end bit where Larita confronts the family, are the best, really touching.
