How can Larita be broke, yet a race car driver? With a BMW? If she's and independent driver, who pays for the car's upkeep? Who pays for the mechanics in the pit? If she's part of a team, how can she just come and go?

Well, Laurita said she was disqualified after winning the race where she met John just because she was a woman, she may be a race car driver, but doubt she made any money in European races. And as far as mechanics on her car, she DID help Jim work on rebuilding the motorcycle (remember her getting down on her knees and rolling up her sleeves in the workshop to help with the motorcycle?) and said her dad had been in the business, so I'm assuming she did all her own mechanic work.
