Unsatisfying Ending (Spoiler)

There should have been one more scene at the end. Who didn't want to see the reactions of Veronica, Hilda, Marion and John when Furber passes along "the good news"?

I didn't like the ending. It was all too sweet and American. KST character was a wounded person...she actually went looking for her husband. The servants informed us that she was a lot like the JB character before the war destroyed her and her husband. Elliott just undersold her story for cheap thrills...evil KST...whoa!!!!!!!

Could have had some redemption at the end with Barnes growing up and KST and CF reconciling.

Ben Barnes character was jus too immature to make their marriage work and in the end seemed actually relieved to see Larita go. I don't think he ever truly loved her - he became smitten with her glamorous American pilot persona but was not interested in learning the more complex aspects of her personality. The moment they hit the first bump in their relationship, he all but bailed on their marriage.

As for KST's character... you do realize she actually went looking for him not out of love but to keep up their charade of a marriage? She couldn't care less about Colin Firth's obvious PTDS and make not attempt to hide love was long gone between them (even openly flirting with their neighbor to further humiliate CF's character.) Him taking off with Larita signaled he no longer feel the need to be punished for his past wrongdoings and willingness to move on with his life.

I was waiting for someone to chop the mothers head off and shove it down her throat. It also would have been nice to see Hilda drawn and quartered. Marion would have done well being strangled with her own intestines.

I wish John had gotten together with Phillip instead of Sarah. It would keep the land from having to be sold and I think Phillip was a really nice guy.

The end made absolutely no sense. Pity, as the movie was otherwise very good. Too bad they turned toward farce at the end.

I would have liked a final scene as well, including Sarah forgiving John...

reply

Sarah has already forgiven John much earlier in the movie.

I would have loved to see a scene where Fuber tells them, but OTOH, it is actually better imagining the reactions! lol
