'Can you turn that off?' 'The monitor or your heart?'

That joke from the nurse when Bacon wakes up in the hospital bed right after he and his wife and kid get shot was one of the weirdest moments I've ever seen in a movie.

Agreed ... poor writing. His wife is dead. His kid may be dead. I guess there are some people who might say something like that (people totally out of it who don't realize what they're saying), but it just didn't make sense for that nurse to say that in this film at that moment. One of the many reasons I gave this film a 5.

Best part of the movie for me was John Goodman (Bones Darley, the father). Scary and "funny" at the same time (great camera shots of his face). Sort of dark comic relief -- eg. calling Kevin Bacon a "preferred customer".

I may up my rating to a 6 because of Goodman ... Hmmmmmm.....?

Did anybody stop to think that the line from the nurse was SUPPOSED to be badly made and insensitive? As a writer myself, I'm often exasperated that critics on these forums don't give the writers enough credit. There are things that can't be expressed in a film easily or at all. Perhaps Nick thought, "wtf?!" after that comment, and perhaps the nurse though, "Crap! I'm an idiot!". If those were voiced or rubbed in our faces, we'd feel insulted.
