So this guy destroys his own family?
He gets pissed because his son is killed, but then sets forth a plan to get the rest of his family murdered?
Really dumb.

He didn't "plan" on getting his family killed, it just ended up happening that way because he killed Billy's brother and the gang obviously retaliated by breaking into their home.
Y'know, I could eat a peach for hours
It's not dumb per se, but it was the wrong decision in the end to say the least. Actually I think the point of the film, aside from the sheer entertainment value, is to show the destructive nature of vengeance and how tragic the results can be when you follow that path. The movie actually surprised me in its darkness and effectiveness. An underated film it is for me.
Bill Foster: I'm the bad guy?...How did that happen?
It might be the wrong thing, but can you blame him for wanting to kill the guys that slaughtered his family?
Y'know, I could eat a peach for hours
Not at all, at least from an from an emotional perspective. But by that time, it had become an almost irreversible cycle, with him ending up dead or probably in jail, make him useless to support his son who just got out of his coma it seems. Heck, in his position, I might have done the exact same thing. But I like how the main gang leader reflected to him how similar he had become to them in the end. It is ultimately quite a sad film when you think of it, and probably much more realistic than countless revenge-themed movies we have seen before.

Send your family away to some other city before you mess with the scums of the world
shareA good summing up as he did not seem to miss his wife as much!
Its that man again!!
He should've at least gotten them out of the house. The cops were worthless from the get go.
He knew they were a big group.

The criminals are committing horrible crimes against people, along with stuff on the side (cooking up drugs), the police aren't doing enough to make a case against them to put them away, nor are they doing enough to protect other victims likely to get caught in the crossfire, and who gets blamed for what happens, the guy who actually does something about it...that's what really dumb.
