Best Western since the High Noon!

And the best Ed Harris´ movie ever.

No

No.

Nowhere near and not even in his top 5.

No way, there's no way it's better than something like Unforgiven.

And this isn't even Ed Harris' best movie where he stars along with Viggo Mortensen...

Peter you have no clue what you are talking about.

Best Western since Unforgiven, maybe. About on a level with the 3:10 to Yuma remake, IMHO. I didn't much like High Noon. Better Westerns since that include The Searchers, The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance, all the Leone Westerns, almost all Eastwood's films (except maybe Paint Your Wagon), Ride the High Country, The Ballad of Cable Hogue, The Wild Bunch, Silverado, Unforgiven, and Lonesome Dove.

And Ed Harris' best film is probably Pollock.

OPEN RANGE and 1959 WARLOCK easily in top 10.

I think it's right up there with The Missing, Open Range and 3:10 to Yuma as being certainly the best of the past 10 years or so. Give me any of the them any day over The Assassination of Jesse James etc.

I love the pairing of Harris and Mortensen. They have a quiet, unassuming, but intense chemistry that makes the film for me.

reply

True! I loved both of them in a History of Violence.

reply

Yes I really liked AHOV too.

Best Western since the High Noon!

while i like Appaloosa (i actually just re-watched this and it held steady(it's roughly in my Top 15 movies of 2008)) i have to disagree here and i think High Noon is pretty average/forgettable.

My Top 10 Westerns ever are...

1.Open Range (2003)
-.For A Few Dollars More (1965)
-.The Good The Bad & The Ugly (1966)
4.Once Upon A Time In The West (1968)
5.Unforgiven (1992)
6.A Fistful of Dollars (1964)
7.True Grit (2010)
8.The Outlaw Josey Wales (1976)
9.Butch Cassidy & The Sundance Kid (1969) (Newman/Redford carry it)
10.High Plains Drifter (1973)

And the best Ed Harris´ movie ever.

i would disagree here to as if i go by what he appeared in i think his most memorable movies are...

1.Enemy at the Gates (2001)
2.The Abyss (1989)
3.The Rock (1996)
4.A History of Violence (2005)

there is more movies of his i like but those are the ones that stand out from the rest.
