Bruce Banner’s real-life inspiration is Edward Teller (mostly).
Teller was a mild-mannered man who could become explosively angry when provoked. When anti-bomb protesters learned this, they would attend his lectures, needle him, then wait for the rage.
This is corroborated by parallels in the Incredible Hulk cast of characters.
Igor, the suspected communist who betrayed Banner, is inspired by Robert Oppenheimer.
General Thunderbolt Ross is inspired by the real-life cigar-chomping belligerent general who was in charge of some of our bomb tests — General Curtis LeMay.
