Here are the chosen shows for consideration in alphabetical order.

Well we have plenty of choices! Rank your top three so we can have 1st, 2nd and 3rd places. The winner will be announced on Friday 11th evening. And in case somebody else wants to include another show on this list, let me know the soonest possible, please.

These are the suggested shows in alphabetical order:

- Defying Gravity (2009)
- FlashForward (2009)
- Freaks and Geeks (1999)
- Invasion: Earth (1998)
- Persons Unknown (2010)
- Rubicon (2010)
- Run (2013)
- Strange (2003)
- Terriers (2010)
- The Dresden Files (2007)
- The Secret Circle (2011)
- Undeclared (2001)

Ummm, I'm a little puzzled here. Going strictly according to the posts, these were the 12 shows that I found as proposed:

Defying Gravity (2009)
FlashForward (2009)
Freaks and Geeks (1999)
Invasion: Earth (1998)
Persons Unknown (2010)
Rubicon (2010)
Run (2013)
Strange (2003)
Terriers (2010)
The Dresden Files (2007)
The Secret Circle (2011)
Undeclared (2001)

Not that I always double-check other people's work (though I am an auditor, and thus I do a lot of that), but I found it a little odd to see The Day of the Triffids listed twice, when I didn't recall anyone even proposing it - at least not this time around. Did you perhaps receive a personal message that was not posted?

You know, the Triffids, those little nasty things, seep into everything! No, I listed it twice as a subliminal message because I REALLY want you to vote for it... Well, actually that was a surplus from last voting, wlcetbg's submission in fact, and since there were no links in his submissions, I got confused with all the copying and pasting. As you see, it makes perfect sense. Clerical errors corrected now, I hope.

You hope in vain. Still missing Run and Invasion: Earth.

My votes:

Persons Unknown
Defying Gravity
Invasion: Earth

reply

My votes are:

1) Defying Gravity. Because I thoroughly enjoyed it. And the show description on this site failed to mention the mysterious force on that ship with them, which was part of the compelling description that got me to check the show out in the first place.

2) Strange. Always did enjoy an occasional drama about investigating corruption and evil in the human institutions of religion and authority.

3) Persons Unknown. Because I got a bit of a Steven King sort of vibe off of the show's description.

I'd've gotten away with it, too, if it weren't for you meddling kids.

Dude, can't leave you alone for a minute. There is no Invasion Earth in the list for voting..... what did they do to you up north? is this some sort of Dark skies initiative?

Two Triffids ate it. Thanks for the reminder. Fixing it now.
THOSE WHO ALREADY VOTE, PLEASE FEEL FREE TO RECONSIDER AND INCLUDE "INVASION EARTH".

Dang it, so wlcebtg was right after all. I hate it when he's right. I guess I can leave him alone for a minute.

Hey, aren't we all supposed to be working right now instead of goofing off in some web forum?

reply

I teach classes tonight. Until then, me goof around!

Sorry, folks. I think I owe the group a little explanation for my recent blunders. I think a new prescribed medication has had a deleterious effect on my attention skills. Nothing serious. And, best of all, it hasn't affected my ability to tell jokes... But I think the list is all right now.

Still missing Run.

Gosh, I really was in an awful shape when I made this list. Sorry, folks. I'll do better next time.

Hey, don't feel bad. If I made the list, it's liable to come out looking like:

The Prisoner (1967)
The Prisoner (1967)
The Prisoner (1967)
The Prisoner (1967)
The Prisoner (1967)
The Prisoner (2009)
The Prisoner (2009)
Tales of Tomorrow (1951)
(Season 1)

And then the whole group would disband.

reply

Yet, you unsubmitted "The Prisoner (1967)" this time. What gives?

reply

I decided I'd rather go with Persons Unknown after realizing that the SF/fantasy "requirement" was, well, just my fantasy, so to speak. Now, I realize that The Prisoner would have barely qualified anyway, but someone else had nominated it a long time ago, so I jumped on it.

On top of that, I've nominated it so many times, I was getting tired of seeing it in the list, so I figured I'd give it a rest. Actually, I'd rather watch the reboot, but that doesn't seem to be available anywhere.

Now as for Tales of Tomorrow, since we all have an open Friday coming up, I'm going to hop over to TV.com, where you can see all of the existing episodes for free. I've watched a few, and they range from "not too bad, considering their age" to "someone got paid for this?" This time, I'm going to watch "The Little Black Bag" (S1,E35), which was remade into the only Night Gallery segment everyone liked. I think the "original" should be interesting.

I'm working second shift presently. I have plenty of time before I have to be at work.

I'm still convalescing from my brush with the great unkown so goofing off is AAAWWWSOME.

One more day of PTO and back to work. Needed to re-adjust to the hot weather and cut and water the grass. Man the weather was nice and cool up north. No problem on the nominations I just vote for what I want anyway.

reply

It's been a very cool summer, very nice. I guess this is the reward for making it through last winter.

But, since I seem to be the only one actually goofing off, I'd better get back to work.

1. The Dresden Files

It occurs to me if you wait to vote until the end you can basically vote for the show you want based on point totals from everyone else who has voted and put that show over the top. Where as if everyones votes were posted before anyone else's votes could be seen I bet the vote winners would be more interesting.

If you vote first, you put your show out there and it starts with an advantage over other shows. And if someone follows that vote because they like the suggestion, its choice might become irreversible. And if you vote last, you can pick the ones you prefer, but that show you love may have no more chances anymore and maybe nobody voted for it because they thought there was nobody interested. So, it really depends on voting circumstances.

But your suggestion is something to be considered. How could we make it possible for votes to be cast without everybody else being able to see it? Well, since I'm organizing the list (and I promise not to screw the list this time), people could send me the votes in private messages and in the end I would reveal who everyone had voted? That could work, and would have a "secret voting booth" democratic feel, except that somebody has to be the ballot box.

Any thoughts, guys?

I wouldn't object to either way, but I think the best thing is to keep the "open" voting system we've been using. I have, in fact, been influenced by the sort of thing Charmed mentions. I would really prefer series A, but ended up voting for B because it was clear that A had no chance and it would be either B or C, but I couldn't get C, so....

But actually, I'd rather vote early and, as madp suggests, get the momentum going for my picks. This time, of course, I ended up in the middle, so I don't know what that means. Still, there seems to be quite a strong trend in the voting that I think will be hard for the late voters to, ummm, defy.

One thing we might consider for next time: we have picked up a few people, so voting among 12 nominees, even at three votes apiece, can be a bit scattered. Some may not get any votes at all. Maybe we should each nominate one and still vote for three of the six.

I still haven't voted because there are so many Strange (2003) shows that Run (2013) on this list, that to me they are like Persons Unknown (2010) so I just haven't had the time to learn what's the deal with these shows I've never heard of. Besides, with me there's a big availability problem, since I can't count, like you guys, on Hulu, Netflix, iTunes, Amazon... And my DVD options are limited. So, either I find the torrent or no deal, and I'm not going to vote for a show I won't be able to watch later.

As for submitting fewer, I understand that perhaps, just a few shows are part of the and just a few join the The Secret Circle (2011) that have actual chances, but I'd rather not change things because I like to be in the hopes at least one of the shows I submitted will be voted for by someone. But if there's a general preference towards that we can start a voting on that. Maybe it's because our election system usually has many candidates, most with no chance at all.

OK, so now we've switched to talking about U.S. Presidential politics?

No, certainly not US, and not necessarily presidential.

I was really making more of an observation than suggestion. Really not sure there needs to be a change just musing while making my vote. your point is also well taken about throwing your shows out first. Our system has worked relatively well so far and most if not all of us have had our shows picked at some time or another. The system works.

Okay, here are my votes for our next show:

1. Invasion: Earth (sounds the most interesting of those shows already voted on, plus it's available on both HULU and YOUTUBE.)

2. Strange (not as interesting, but at least it's available on HULU).

3. Flashforward

My trouble with Defying Gravity is that it's not on anything available to me, unless I do pay-per-view and well...I don't.

reply

1- Rubicon
2- Flashforward
3- Invasion: Earth
