Confused: Time loop or Life Goes On - What do you think?

I know that this has been talked about before but from all of that talk I have become really confused about what the last scene of the series finale means when our Jack and Zoe saw the alternate Jack and Zoe (their pre-Eureka selves). I know that this scene runs parallel with the opening scene in the series pilot episode, but what if anything does it mean for Jack and Zoe. I have heard some people say it's a time loop so does that mean that Jack and Zoe have somehow time traveled back to the beginning and Jack is no longer married and he has lost his new family and Zoe is not going to be graduating from Harvard after all as they are no longer in 2012. Or is it simply what I believe it to be which is just a scene to book end the series and show how far these two characters have come? I mean Zoe even says, "We've come a long way haven't we?" And Jack responded, "Yeah, yeah we have." Then cue the spooky music and that scene that started it all.

What do you think? I am really confused and I realize that there is probably no definitive answer to this but I was wondering what you think about this scene. If the story were to continue from where we left off what would happen? When Jack returns home will SARAH be waiting for him, not to mention Allison and the kids, or will everything be the way it was way back in the beginning? I'm only looking for opinions here so please voice yours and thanks...

I believe it's none of the above.
The writers just having a bit of fun.
Fun that they thought of before shooting the pilot.

The scene does two things:
In the pilot: Foreshadows that something unusual is going to happen.
In the finale: Takes a bow because it was also special; Thanks for joining us.

I think Jack returns home to find Alison and the kids waiting for him. That's how I want to picture their future- as a happy ending. I think, after all the thrills and spills, they deserve that.

Jack Did say he deal with it tomorrow. I took at as life goes on. Jack knows another project went haywire and he's going to have to save someone from themselves once again. But he didn't want to ruin a nice moment with Zoey by turning back so he'll deal with it later.

This is exactly how I took it to mean. Life goes on in Eureka for it is as the title of the episode itself said, Just Another Day. It's just that there are several people, including several of my friends, who took it to mean that once again (first time to 1947) they time traveled on that road back to the beginning of the series. Who's to say that a time travel machine is not the project that went haywire?

Still, I hate that idea, but my concern has been somewhat alleviated when I heard the creator of Eureka, Jaime Paglia, say in an interview that if there were to be a tv movie (big if at the moment) they might do what he had always wanted to do during the series. It seems that he had always wanted to bring in William Shatner to play Jack's dad and have him think that the job as sheriff in the small town of Eureka as being too menial and below what he had always wanted for his son until I'm sure something interesting happens to change his mind.

No, I think that last scene neatly bookended the series as the scene is almost exactly (with a few changes) like that of the scene in the pilot and it did show character development which is what bookends are supposed to do. I think it was a nice treat for many of the fans but it also does lead itself to confusion as to what it means for the future of Eureka if in fact the story continued on. Still, you're right it's something that he'll deal with tomorrow and I do believe that life does goes on in Eureka and all of our favorite characters will be just fine. It was too sweet an ending for it not to.

To me it was the writers showing the Eureka has gone back to normal and life goes on. Only in Eureka could you drive past yourself :o)
