Allison: Stark or Carter?

I'm not sure if this was already discussed. If so, sorry for the repeat!

If Allison had one true love, do you think it would be Carter or Stark? I started watching the show from the beginning again, and there are times when I feel like Stark really is right for her - like he really knows her. Example: The gift he got her when she was appointed head of GD vs. Carter's honeymoon idea. But other times that I feel like Carter is better for her. Her relationship with each guy is definitely unique, so it's probably hard to fairly compare the two. But if I had to choose, I'd guess Carter. I feel like he sums it up when he says, "There is no time, no space, no way that we don't end up together." They ended up together in 2 out of the 3 timelines we saw them in. And I'm convinced that had they not gone back to 1947 that they would have ended up together in the first timeline, too.

Does anyone else have any thoughts? Has anyone else thought about that?

I always like Allison and Nathan together. I think they just fit and their onscreen chemistry was more believable to me.

Most would pick Carter probably because he had three times more screen time than Stark. Carter sometimes was to arrogant to really get into. He always struck me as if every thing had to go his way or no way. He had his bad moments but overall was good for her. I guess it is best to go for what the series laid out for us and just except that she had both of them and loved and cared for each.

I think Stark was too much of everything for Allison. She seemed to like the idea of being able to retreat into being average every now and then. Stark didn't have an average setting. With Carter she can pretend to be ordinary. I don't think she really wanted to be ordinary, she seemed to really enjoy being very intelligent. She just liked to pretend.

I also think Carter was better for her. Stark blurred the lines between right and wrong too much. He was an ends justifies the means kind of guy. So even when he was seeking out a good goal, he was willing to compromise his integrity. But Carter would try to achieve the good goal, without compromising his integrity. And unlike Stark, he would never ask Allison to compromise her integrity either. Since I just finished season 2, it's all fresh in my mind. That's why I'm thinking so deeply into this, haha.

When did Stark ever compromise his integrity?

It happened during the time when they were trying to figure out how to get the artifact out of Kevin. I noticed people on the board talk about how much of a jerk Allison became in this season, but I think a lot of that had to do with Stark telling her that they couldn't tell anyone. So then she had to lie and keep things from people. Allison wanted to tell Carter, but Stark convinced her not to. And then she wanted to bring in Henry, and he told her not to. He convinced her that she couldn't trust either of them because eventually it would get to the DOD. I believe his sincerity and his genuine desire to protect Kevin, but keeping it between them is what led to all the drama that happened later. And in particular, during "Noche de SueƱos" she and Stark set up the dream machine in Kevin's room which caused all the shared dreaming. She kept the evidence from Carter at the insistence from Stark. She told Stark that they needed to shut the machine off and tell Carter, and Stark refused. So Carter had to figure it out and was angry with them for withholding evidence. Another example is when she shut out Henry from Kim's lab and lied to him about why...that was at Stark's insistence as well.

Maybe another way to look at it is this.

With which fella does Allison have more of a future?

Jack's run as the central character of a TV show is over.
Is it more likely to have Jack get ANOTHER show or for Nathan to get his first show?

Dead Nathan?
Maybe not a show after where/when Eureka ends.
Maybe a Nathan show before Jack's Eureka started?

Nathan and Allison BEFORE Eureka show. :-)

Being Director of GD changes you. Just look at Fargo. Allison definitely had a bit of an edge to her after she was promoted, compared to Season 1, and Stark seemed much lighter and personable after his demotion. He was willing to show his softer side to Allison, which was presumably what she fell in love with, and even made strides in his relationship with Carter.

So in Season 1, Carter and Allison had a flirty, buddy-buddy relationship. Good friends with potential for more. Director Stark was an impersonal and imposing figure. I could imagine he and Allison together, but also totally believe that it didn't work out.

Director Blake had more of a no-nonsense air, the burden of responsibility. Meanwhile Stark softened up a bit, and definitely understood what she was going through. This version of the pair fit better together, while Carter and Allison were still in the friend zone.

So as much as I liked Stark and wished he didn't die, killing him off made sense from a relationship standpoint if they wanted to pair Allison and Carter and not let a triangle go forever, or explore the arc of Carter finding a new gf.
