All Jacked-Up

Season 4 opens with an inexplicable dumping of Carter by Tess in a "previously on Eureka" that never occurred. This was disappointing, but considering Tess had left to Australia nonsensically in the previous episode (I say this because in the episode she claims she'll be out of a job when Allison returns, which makes no sense because she was the head of Section 5, and would have had that job back, furthermore she could have easily taken on a co-leader role as had been in place with Allison, Nathan, and that immortal lady who tried to kill herself).

So first the show conjures of a b.s. excuse to get rid of Tess (after writing Jack's previous girlfriend out of the show without any explanation) even though Tess worked way better as a love interest than this idiotic 4 season long half-hearted relationship with Allison. Then the very next episode they show a scene that never occurred of Tess dumping Jack. But wait, there's more!

Then the next episode Jack claims HE DUMPED HER. But the one partial scene we got, and the information they gave was that she dumped him. And then by Season 4 Episode 3 we have Jack actually entirely out of love and disturbed by the mere presence of Tess, and a whole new claim that not only did Jack dump Tess, but that he had spent a "year realizing they didn't work as a couple". What year? They were together for a couple months. How do we know this? Because they weren't a couple until about the time Allison was giving birth, and Tess left immediately after Allison's 6 week maternity leave. So where did this whole year come from?

All the re-writes aside, I now find this unwatchably annoying and uncomfortable, because as much as I realize it was the show's theme to show Jack perpetually as being the victim of everything the town does, and perpetually mocked, and perpetually loveless, this was just too cruel. To entirely wipe out what seemed to be the only bit of actual love and happiness Jack had in the show's entire run, and to twist the knife to the point we're supposed to believe Jack actually can't stand her.

In 2008 I would have told you this was one of the greatest shows ever. But I never had made it to season 4. I'm actually glad they cancelled it. They've ruined the show. And this is ignoring all the other major plot lines they inexplicably dropped like Henry's knowledge of the alternate timeline, his plan to save his love, Jack's memory of Henry's betrayal, Henry's hatred of Jack for letting Kim die. The magical artifact that was the answer to the universe, the mystical organization that was spying on Eureka. All those dropped plot lines aside, this was the most intolerable.
