The guy who played Stark...

Was a terrible actor! he couldn't emote at all, even when he tried! Don't get me wrong; I thought he was good eye-candy. But he was eye-candy that couldn't act his way out of a paper bag, and he often ruined the scenes he was in because of that fact - especially romantic scenes with Allison. I was frankly glad to see him go, though I did enjoy looking at him generally, because if I want to look at hot guys who can't act, I'll leaf through a male underwear catalogue.

I liked his acting. I think one of the best acted scenes in the series was between Henry and Stark. It is the one in the episode House Rules, where they are arguing in the kitchen. The pacing of the scene, the reaction between the actors and the rhythm of it just worked.

I actually liked him. Especially in 'Right as Rayne', season 1, ep. 8. I thought he did a good job there.

It was the ex-Files for me. The way he and Jack always played off each other was fun and they knocked it out of the park with this one. 'Put a shirt on'. 'It's YOUR hallucination.' 'Don't care - shirt it!'

I never had a problem with his acting, but was glad to see him go, too. At the time the Stark character had fulfilled his purpose on the show. That said, I wouldn't have been too disappointed if they brought him back eventually, maybe in a similar way in which they brought back Walter Perkins, minus the reverse aging aspect.

Cheese fries...next time.

Saying someone ruined a scene because of his acting to me can't be a fact, as acting is different to different people, though I do see where you and some fans of the show didn't like him. While Stark isn't my favorite character he did have and fulfill the purpose on the show.

You say he could emote, meaning he could exaggerate his emotions or be more expressive? I think that was definitely part of the character: While Stark was somewhat emotional he was a very stubborn and a guy who has trouble with his emotions. So in my opinion Ed Quinn played the character very well and his emotions was exactly what it needed to be for his character on Eureka.

It's not the acting but the writing. Stark served as an antagonist to our hero Carter so we were supposed to not like him. Problem is, it made it impossible to understand why Allison did. The writers later tried this with Trevor Grant but were dancing on the brake and accelerator with that character so much it would have made a rally driver blush.

made it impossible to understand why Allison did.

Why would Allison like Stark? The rugged good looks, brilliant mind, prestigious career and the ability to understand and help her autistic son might be part of the answer.

reply

Which would all be pretty shallow stuff, except the 'helping the son' part. Seems to me a large part of that story arc was Allison trying to PREVENT Stark fooling around with the artifact in that regard. And Stark as wonderful Dad? He told his own 'son' to leave Dodge.

Further, we are introduced to Allison and Stark as estranged, soon to be divorced. The reversal of that relationship breakdown because Stark has a career change was contrived and, well, ridiculous. The writers just didn't do enough with that character for us to understand how all that would happen.

I agree, he is one of the worst actors I've ever seen. Actually, I can't even call him an actor. I don't think it's his fault, but as soon as he left the show, Eureka got a lot better.
