Season 2 why does no one trust Carter?

Jack Carter: Why would all of his friends all of a sudden mistrust him. First Henrey steals 4 years, then Allison, and Stark fear he will go to the DOD about Kevin. I could understand their concerns if he were another nerd, but I feel he has proven to everyone that even if he was the last man on Earth he would never sell out to the government. It seems that throughout the show everyone except Jack would sell their souls to further their agenda. All the while Carter continues to throw himself into the literal jaws of death to help them. Stark knows Carter is honorable yet he is the architect of this mistrust and I don't get it. I know the show has a natural progression, but to think he will turn on them? I thought they were genises.

Good question. Allison and Stark's secrecy during that time was especially annoying (it made me miss how Allison was in season one). Henry's secrecy kept me on the edge of my seat, because he seemed a little like a ticking time bomb due to his anger over losing Kim. I suppose that, story-wise, keeping Carter out of the loop and the lack of communication helped increase suspense and the risk of scientific mishaps.

To me, Stark is one of those Frank Burns or Major Charles Emerson Winchester III (M*A*S*H) types who always has to be butting heads with our favorite characters to keep things more interesting. Carlton Lassiter on Psych was often the same way towards Shawn Spencer even though Shawn had already proven himself countless times. Fortunately Carlton and Stark often knew when to back off and allow Shawn and Carter to get their jobs done.

Mag, Darling, you're being a bore.

I get the Henrey suspense, but the characters you compared stark to were always antagonists. It seemed stark didn't like Carter, but he changed between seasons 1-2. He trusted him then he didn't. Allison didn't turn that hard. They had four years to build a relationship. It seems the writers used timelines to blow things up, and again and again. It feels like they destroyed story lines for no reason because they just sat there and thought too much.

Not necessarily. Winchester and Lassiter had moments in which they were genuinely pleasant and cooperative with the protagonists. Stark had his good points, yet was an antagonist on a regular basis where Carter was concerned -- even when Carter was on the right track as far as figuring out solutions to problems -- so Stark served a similar purpose as the other characters mentioned.

I agree that it didn't seem necessary to keep doing that (I say that even though I liked the altered timelines). Unfortunately the show's budget had a tendency to dictate the direction of the storylines. I recall that there were things they wanted to do in season one, but weren't able to because of the budget.
