Unrealistic German reaction ***MAJOR SPOILER***
As I said, this is a major spoiler.
I have a problem with a scene at the end of the movie. When Michiel shoots the uncle it is very clear that there are Germans nearby, within easy sight. When he pulls the trigger he stands there for a full minute (I timed it, lol) with his arm outstretched and still pointing the pistol. I expected to see a chase scene with the boy somehow evading the Germans. Instead, there is no reaction that we see at all. We hear the sounds of treads (probably a half-track) but I don't think that would have been loud enough to drown out the sound of a pistol shot. Surely some of the Germans would have heard the sound and responded. I know the director wanted us to see Michiel's reaction to shooting his uncle, but this was too unrealistic for me. Maybe if the pistol had a silencer, but not an unmuffled shot.
