Watching the special features...

I'm just now getting around to watching the extras on the Blu-ray. Under "When the man comes around" they are very very hard pushing the fact that Tom doesn't measure up...physically to the Reacher character described and crafted in the books. They actually say there was no actor that closely fit Lee's description that had the acting ability to play the part. I beg to differ. And maybe my two thoughts were tested and considered, even though the way they present casting in the extras as there was never anyone but Tom considered. I can see Joe Manganiello (first choice) or Anson Mount. I firmly believe they could pull it off. I guess all I'm saying is they are wrong in saying no one but Tom Cruise could pull it off. Dead wrong.

Yes. I agree, Tom did do a great job. I was just knocked off center when the went to such lengths to say well in Lees's books Jones Reacher is six foot five and 250lbs....they made the statement that there are no actors even close to that physical description that could play the role of Reacher (from an acting skills POV). I just had issue with that statement. There are several actors closer to Reacher (from the books)in size but I do agree most of them that I know of may not have been able to communicate and translate the an from book to screen. And Tom is not the only person who could play Reacher. But agreed he did do a wonderful job. I enjoyed the film very much. I just got ticked when they made that statement in one of the extras.

Joe and Anson? Maybe they could portray Reacher but movies are a business, got to have some star power and charisma too for the studios to greenlight a movie and expect to make a profit.

Tom Selleck would have been perfect when he was younger.

Ben Affleck has the build (6'4" and four feet across the shoulders) but I'm not sure he could pull off the attitude of cold, quiet danger.

Jason Momoa is 6'3" and built. I think he can also convey the air of danger. The only question is if his face would look the part all cleaned up (shaved, close-cut hair)
