Bus-Stop Scene

May have already been answered, but why does the crowd at the bus-stop cover Reacher's escape from the Cops? That one dude even hands him his cap to bury his face in. Nobody knows this guy. For all they know, he could be a notorious murdering psychopath chased by the cops. So why didn't they start running like a bunch of "normal" people would if something like that happened?

reply

It was a dumb attempt at showing that Reacher is good at blending in. Also a comic relief.

Fighting a religious war is like fighting over whose imaginary friend is better.

reply

Yeah, I understand why the moviemakers created the scene as they did. Thanks for pointing out the obvious. What I meant was: in the world of Jack Reacher, what made these people hide him? He may be armed, he may be dangerous and he's obviously being chased by the cops, so what do they gain in hiding him?

reply

Nothing. People on this board have been wondering the same for years.

reply

Liberally-biased Hollywood screenwriters hate police. They think all regular citizens want to stick it to "the man."

reply

The movie is set in Pittsburgh, so - working-class, union town. Generally in places like that, when the cops are chasing a guy, they help the guy.

Sure, a lot of people might go "Hey! He's over here!" but not everybody. So in this instance, he got lucky and got an anti-cop crowd.

so if a rapist is caught in the act against a kid, jumps in a car and drives away, the police would not chase? pppfftt sure.....

reply

My first thought was that there was probably a deleted or missing scene to explain why the people at the bus stop act as they do.
It really makes no sense, not even to a liberal, otherwise.

It was kind of dumb. Not to mention it was late for all of those workers to just be heading home. And, hard working Americans wouldn't have covered for him, even average joes. This was the business district too, not the hood. I'm sure if he'd been in the ghetto, they'd be more likely to help, except he's a white dude.

reply

Those was working class bunch and Reacher driving a working class car Chevelle they thought he was just trying to get out of a ticket.

reply

Don't overthink it -- they see the chase, they see the helicopter, they see the fleet of squad cars...they realize Cruise is a bad ass and they help him get one over on the cops.

reply

Perfectly stated.
