The FDA is utterly corrupt

Just shows you how the FDA is completely corrupt by not allowing the new drugs onto the market that would help cure the patients.

reply

It wasn't curing the patients it was just alleviating their symptoms. I believe most people die from the symptoms or complications and these supplements were helping to fight against all the symptoms.

True.AZT was the only drugs known at that time to have any effect on the disease it prevents the HIV virus from replicating it's RNA into DNA.

These drugs were untried and uncertified in the U.S. by the FDA wich means their health risks are unknown.AZT had already been tested by the FDA prior to the outbreak of AIDS and showed promising long term effects in clinical trials so it was actually quite logic that the gouvernement wanted to test AZT on patients, who already had a short-life expectancy and most of these volunteered for these tests.Woodroof in this film is potraited in a too positive light and portraid as a hero, while he actually was a dangeous, irresponsible drugs-smuggler.And the reasons why the drug manufactors usually have first billing when it comes to testing drugs is because these trails cost quite a lot of money(wich some manufactors might not have) and usually take years before a drug is approved.Since Woodroof is neither a scientist or a doctor his trade in these drugs are criminal wich potentially could cause more harm to those infected.Considering AZT is part of the cocktail AIDS patients get nowadays prove that they were right, the fact that these illigal drugs alleviated some of the symptoms was rather a case of luck than common sense. Also the dealing with untried drugs in a test population undermined the tests the gouvernement were doing to find out how to use AZT to it's maximum effect. When you buy a car you probably want te make sure that if you hit a wall or tree you have a fair chance to come out of the crash alive and unharmed and that this has been tested according certain protocols?Same applies for medicine! If you want to read about the risks of untried medicine or non-FDA approved drugs look up the Softenon(thalidomide)-scandal wich started the implementation of international regulations on the testing of new drugs according the highest standards(wich the FDA regulations are!).So it has been agreed to take these FDA regulations as the international norm on drug testing.

Your response to the OP's statement is very reasoned, rational, and responsible. The FDA, with all of its warts, is in place for a reason.
People love to criticize "government" or "regulation", or "big business", but it's the response of a child or even dare-say an idiot to want to throw the baby out with the bath water.
Greed, be it in the form of power, scope, reach, or in terms of the acquirement of fortunes, in almost all cases, is the evil to fight against.
This movie is completely disingenuious, dumbed down, and intended to appeal to reactive idiots.

reply

That's funny; I must have misunderstood. I thought reactive idiots were the ones unwilling to arm themselves against their own problems and instead wanted Papa Government to step in and make everyone play nice and be happy.

My bad. Oops.

reply

Please don't steer the convo toward partisan politics, there's plenty of "reactive idiots" to go around. I was referring to those who found anything worthwhile or truthful about this movie.

reply

Don't blame the government. If you don't want AIDS, I would suggest not sharing needles with a pimp while banging his whore.

reply

Lots of people got it and they weren't engaging in the behaviors you mentioned.

Many folks got it via blood transfusions.

The new drug approval process takes many years to complete. this is to ensure all medications are efficacious and provide the proper therapy. MANY years. Look into it.

reply

Thats true, if you are a small biotech company. If you are a big biotech you can get fast track approval no problem. Their influence over the FDA and their panels is painfully obvious. Especially when it comes to obstructing new drug applications (from the smaller companies)
