You can already see your house from space on any satellite program or web site, and none of them are live. With that in mind, the ending of this movie would not be possible because it was snowing. This could only mean that there's cloud coverage and any satellite photography of that area would be of a cloud.

I thought about that too, but they fixed it for me. in the movie the people at Live Earth said when we heard that he wanted to be able to see his house (implying that he wanted to see the lights) we started downloading the uplink more frequently. I took that as fixing the hole, as for him and his daughters saying that you couldn't see their house, I assumed that either the house wasn't built when the picture was taken or they were just in the wrong area with a house similar to their neighbors.
