House seen from space? What a stupid concept.

Who cares if your house can be seen from space? Who's going to be looking? You think if aliens ever come to invade our planet, the first thing they'll want to see is your house? Yes, I know the whole point of that was Buddy wanting recognition, but it was incredibly contrived.

Here's what the plot SHOULD have been: so Steven is "the Christmas guy" in his neighborhood. He's got the most decorations, most lights, he's the most popular guy. Enter Buddy and his family. He was the "Christmas guy" in his old neighborhood and now he aims to become the one in this town. His lights and decorations outdo Steven's, so they keep trying to one-up or sabotage each other.

Have to agree, it was a pretty stupid way to 'be somebody' especially given all the lesser decorated houses could already be seen from space.

You guys kind of missed the point of the movie. It's not a matter whether or not his house can be seen from space. It's about how Buddy comes to the realization that he doesn't need to finish something just to earn the love of his family and friends. They accept him for who he is.

A pathetic loser who can't hold a job and would hock his wife's family heirloom to pay for his LED habit?

Agreed. Only in a horrible written and directed movie can an UNLIKEABLE character be the protagonist we're supposed to root for.

reply

And by the way, CB, if that was the message the movie was trying to convey, WHY did they the grant Buddy's wish at the same time, by suspending disbelief by miraculously getting his lights to work after the power failed? Can you answer that one?

reply

Wow, just wow. You guys are really serious? Isn't there a thinking process when you watch these movies? Buddy's wish was granted only after he realized what was really important to him. It was more or less icing on the cake for him and only after the fact.

Obvious you guys will think this movie is stupid no matter what I say. My only advice from now on is that when you go see a movie, at least try to understand what the writer(s) are really trying to say rather than taking everything at face value.

reply

What the writers are trying to say is 'well we don't want to work too hard, so let's do some half assed Christmas movie since people are too stupid to just not come to the theater if nothing good's showing'.

reply

I think YOU are the one who doesn't get it.

reply

Whatever. I guess there is no point in continuing this discussion.

reply

I'm starting to think maybe you worked on this movie. Were you one of the script writers? The A.D., maybe?
