Does these kind of movies make criminals smarter?

I just saw the movie again today and was wondering, does these kind of movies make criminal smarter? What are your opinion about movies showing criminal how not to get caught? (tool to unhook chain lock, vacuuming car, plastic bag around gun, etc.)

reply

Do these kinds of movies...

No. People who decide to be criminals are too stupid to begin with

reply

False, there are many unsolved murders and crimes. Movies like this do indeed not only make stupid criminals smarter.. but keep already smart criminals thinking. Youre probably just mad you got robbed or something.. My advice? Buy a .44 and get the F over it.

Most crimes are crimes of passion, so these movies do not help them, logic and cool-headedness go out the window. The idea of a buried body BENEATH a soon to be buried coffin was unique in it simplicity though.

Also in the movie the amount of planning isn't really shown. How to not been seen, have untraceable clothes to burn, an inconspicuous car that isn't in your name. Plus someone killing people you don't know and can't be traced just for the fun of it is very very rare.

Maybe it does help their spelling ;-) just kidding.

I've wondered this often after seeing yet another episode of csi. I researched it back then and the creators of csi said that they always have to leave out at least one detail, that would otherwise frame the suspect who'd try it in real life (in ways portrayed in the series).

Furthermore I think the previous poster is right in saying only a very small percentage of murders are calculated and planned. The simple fact is: the perfect crime does not exist, because if it was ever committed we would have never heard about it.

The only thing I will say: when there is no body you can't be convicted. You can leave a lot of evidence, but without a body there has never been a conviction (though I can't see this will always remain the case).

This was also the reason I like the cemetary part; simple yet convincing.

There have been hundreds of cases of murder prosecuted in the absence of a body: http://www.nobodycases.com/no_body2.pdf

Interestingly, the conviction rate is high, too - about 90%.

well it's not just movies that give criminals ideas, just look at big murder trials and other crimes in general in the news and they always reveal stuff of how the killers/criminals got caught, for instance there was a man who killed his wife in my country who said he was at work when she was killed but they found out by his mobile phine that he was'nt actually at work when he said he was.

If you want guidelines for the perfect crime, just ask your local politician.

I think so, at least for organized, plotting psychopaths.

The CSI shows seem to me to be encyclopedia of how not to leave evidence. Almost to the point of irresponsibility IMO.
