In my opinion,the movie would be a lot better if that dream of Mr. Brooks,in which her daughter kills him with a scissor,was the end,because he didnt want to die just to see his grandson or granddaughter whatever,it would be a very deep ending,and the dream would not be a dream and it would be reality ,mr brooks should have end dead to give a lot more impact

Just to let you know I also thought the same thing. Either leave it with him killing Dane Cook and kissing his daughter goodnight as he walks out of the room or leave it with her killing him. It was much more shocking and better than him "dreaming". The actual ending just mixed up my emotions and left me with a very bad taste in my mouth even though I enjoyed the rest of the movie.

Yes, the fact that it was a dream-- more like a nightmare-- shows me that Mr. Brooks has a conscious, fear, maybe even some guilt. These are qualities he especially did not display up to this point. It seemed out of character.

Would it have been so bad to confront his daughter alone and tell her simply I know you killed him and I'm going to help you, so you never feel that way again. This may have revealed to her that he killed another person at her school though. Or maybe just her knowing she got very lucky and got away with it was enough for her to never do it again (probably unlikely). Was the dream a warning of things to come, meaning nothing good can come of this situation. A child is on the way would that curb her mental illness or make it worse? I guess unless a sequel comes we will never know.

I would have preferred that ending also.

and it would have been nice if then she had Kevin Costner in her head, egging her on to kill.

It would make absolutely no sense if it had ended that way, there is 0 motivation for her to kill her loving dad, it would come out of no where and it would make no sense at all
