Pathetic ending

They had a perfectly viable ending to the story, and then they *beep* ruined it. I see people saying it was to allow for a sequel...

Just goes to show that they're ruin a movie just to try to extend it and cash in on more of the same.

The story was planned to be a trilogy. Many people are still hoping for the continuation of the story. We want to know what will happen with his daughter and grandchild!

What didn't you like about the ending? That he didn't go through with having smith kill him?

Imho that would have been lame, master serial killer takes the easy way out? And if he had we wouldn't have gotten the amazing and foreshadowing end scene we got. The way it ends is perfect imho. He's trying to be good, but now he knows his daughter will eventually kill him. He probably never was on the receiving end of that equation, unable to kill someone that wants to kill him. What scared him about his dream wasn't getting killed by his daughter, but that she'll go to prison and will ruin her life.

The ending to me touches on the fundamental ethical question of why murdering people isn't rational. Because in order to pass on your genes and evolve you need to love and protect your children and live in a society. He can't die because he wants to protect his offspring, but what he and his offspring is and does is wrong because it will get him and her killed. That certainly isn't a "happy ending".
