Lots of similarities here. They do everything almost perfectly but still manage a couple of oversights ("Ripley's Game" for instance). So the question is: "mano a mano", who would win? (Kind of like Samantha of "Bewitched" vs. Genie of "I Dream of Genie", or "Alien" vs. "Predator".) They are both insufferably arrogant.
Perhaps the only difference is that Mr. Brooks is insane while Mr. Ripley is just a sociopath.
Brooks. Ripley killed just to cover up his crimes and to become someone else. Brooks did it because he enjoyed chasing his dragon. Plus, Ripley was alone. We're led to believe that Brooks' daughter Jane was an up and coming serial killer as well so it would be inevitable that they would eventually team up.
shareI don't think the movie made it seem inevitable that they would team up. I thought they insinuated that she'll either kill her father or he'll kill her as to not give her the chance.
As for Brooks vs Ripley, if you mean like who'd manage to kill who then Brooks would win.
Brooks would definitely win, hands down. He's older, more experienced and meticulous about clean-up. He's also extremely calculated and composed when it comes to the murders. A very strategic, emotionally detached, organized killer. Ripley is young and prone to rash episodes of unplanned, emotionally charged acts of violence. He wouldn't stand a chance against Brooks. Heck, he'd probably fall in love with Brooks.
