I wonder what was the cause of death for Tiana's father James since I know that Eudora said that chasing the dream for the restaurant send him to an early grave.

World War 1 happened in 1918.Did it begin in 1918? Maybe he was called back for another tour,but he changed his job and became a chef/Cook for the troops,and 1 night or day,a mentally ill soldier or guy Pulled a pin on a Grenade,threw it into the mess hall,James ran toward it and jumped on it.Saving everyone else there.?That sounds correct/right.

I agree with @ActionLover. I think he worked himself to death by working hard to support the family and save money to start the restaurant (just like how Tiana saves tips from waitressing). Although I must admit I haven't noticed the pictures of him in army clothes, so that's a possibility too.
