PatF- doomed to fail from the start?

Now I want to start off by saying I love this movie, and while "fail" might be a strong word to describe how it did, it was by no means a commercial and critical feat.
Once this movie's prototype was revealed (as "The Frog Princess"), it was immediately met with controversy. People were quick to scream that it was racist. The title was deemed racist, her character design was deemed racist, her original name was deemed racist, and her profession as a chambermaid was deemed racist. Because this was the early stages of the movie, Disney took these complaints into account because allegations of racism are nothing to sneeze at.
TFP became PatF, Maddy's very curly hair was straightened out because it was deemed stereotypical and "kinky", they changed Maddy to Tiana because even though it was short for Madeline, it was too close to "Mammy", and she was Charlotte's maid and they were supposed to be enemies (though I'm glad they changed them into friends even if it wasn't very realistic). Then after all that Disney got complaints for being too PC. The movie was released and tons of people still said it was racist- all races alike.
There was really no way this movie was gonna "win". Damned if they did, damned if they didn't. A lot of people like it, a lot of people hate it. Like any other movie, it's not without its flaws of course. I'm happy with the end result and it got me interested in Disney animated movies again so I'm thankful for that.

You stay alive, baby. Do it for Van Gogh.

I agree with every word you just said there.

I just finished watching this movie, four years after it was released.

It was ok. Wasn't bad, not particularly great either.

This being the reaction amazes me. I don't really even feel motivated to elaborate much. It's just amazing to observe.

I'm highly disappointed by people in general overall. People will look to create monsters so to hunt them I guess.

I disagree.

I don't think it was the efforts to appease Political correctness, that killed any magic the movie could've had. It was simply not that compelling, period.

That's all.

You can create a GREAT story, without offending people. They just didn't do it here.
