Does Louis the alligator fit well into the movie?

I'm a huge fan of Louis the jazz-playing alligator because of his charm and fantastic voice (Michael-Leon Wooley), but I've read several online film reviews saying that he doesn't add much to the plotline of the movie.

Does Louis appeal to people the same way as Ray or Charlotte?

How many loveable alligators are there in movies? I feel he does add alot to the movie. My daughter and I love him!

I think Louie was fine.

I love how.. voluptuous he was drawn, ha. Just very fun-looking. I think he adds to the story: he's an animal that wants to be human, but learns to find acceptance as he is.

If there's one drawback: I didn't think he was very funny. Some of his lines were cheesy. But I didn't mind.

I've been kind of pondering this for a while, and I do think his role in the film was a bit shoehorned in. He didn't have a specific purpose like Ray did, he was just a gator that wanted to be a musician. I don't think much of the story would've changed, had he been cut out of the film entirely.

Then again, his goal did fit in with the theme of following your dreams. So, I guess I'm okay with that.

I didn't really care for him. He didn't add anything to the movie other than comic relief. It felt VERY forced!
