RE: Naveen he should have been white like Disney wanted

Eurocentric Prince are what Disney does best. Disney should have stuck to what it does best. The contrast between a black girl and a white prince would have given it the hedge it needed (Like Beauty and the Beast had a hard edge to those characters).

Do any of you believe the television show "Scandal" would be the huge hit that it is if the President were anything but white? A side from what Kerry Washington said about not wanting to play opposite a black President since the current occupant in the WH is black, if the president were any other race than white do you think millions of women (of all races would be viewing the show every week?

It not that audiences prefer a white male lead, its just that the contrast and novelty (on TV) create an unspoken edge to the characters.

It might be what Disney does best but when it comes to their first black princess they needed to think about it.

Having a white prince would be way too soon in my opinion. There was already controversy surrounding Tiana's original name and job. And when Prince Naveen was revealed some people still were not happy. They wondered why Disney's first black princess could not be with a black man.

We all know that if Naveen was black "certain people" wouldn't watch it and if Naveen was white "certain people" wouldn't watch it. So I think Naveens ambiguity was for the best. He is still Eurocentric in appearance to me, just like how Aladdin was. And he is a popular disney prince.

you have to be kidding me!! LOL

Having a black princess and a white prince would be akin to professional suicide for Disney.

Every black male would cry racism and hollywood stereotype of Black female/White male.

So i guessed they went for an Indian (subcontinent Indian) in Naveen

Yeah, Disney didn't want that firestorm. A black girl's dad dies, then she meets and falls in love with a 'white' Prince? Comically, for me, it's tons of jokes but for the masses of people who wouldn't find it funny...like Uncle Jesse would say, HAVE MERCY!!! They played it real safe, simply being a black princess. Her storyline was typical...she wasn't in the woods, singing to animals or anything. Working her butt off like normal folks.

^^No freaking kidding. All the 15 year old racist SJWs who hate white people would've thrown tantrums over this for months.

Personally though, I love Naveen as he is. He's cute.

Just be glad it's not a white princess with a black prince. It would've been Save the Last Dance irl... "White girls like you, creepin' up, taking our men!"

I bet you say that to all the Nordic ice goddesses. -Tora Olafsdotter

ITA, until everyone and their brother stops crying "racist" and looking for any excuse to claim something racist, Disney will have their backs against the wall. I love the PATF, found it entertaining and loved the story. I wasn't sitting around trying to pick it apart. Have to wonder, when people get this bent out of shape over an animated movie, how to they function daily. Ya know, with actual issues lmao.

If interracial gives it it's edge, why have none of the white princesses been with a non-white man?
