The ending.... (spoilers)

So, what does everyone make of the ending? When we see him driving again, is this some time after Bernie attacked him? Was he wearing a vest/armour, so it wasn't such a bad wound? Is he imaging the whole scene. Or do we treat the film as a fairy tale, and not ask these questions?

I don’t think he was wearing any protective vest, he clearly got stabbed and was bleeding out. I think the film suggests he got cleaned up, left his old life behind, and will pop up at a new garage like he did Shannon’s.
