The two robbers at the end of the first chase scene

I know we're suppose to concur that they got away but they still had to lob around two large bags over their shoulders while everyone else looks like they just left the game. It's no big deal, but when you compare it to how Gosling came prepared to blend in, those guys didn't have a way of hiding their loot. Even in Heat, they dressed in suits to match the tote bags.

Maybe they didn’t get away. It was about the Driver and not about them.

I seem to remember Shannon (Bryan Cranston) responding positively to his work on that job and that's what led him to recommend him for that car race being sponsored by Albert Brooks' character?

reply

It’s been a while so I don’t remember any follow up. I will take your word for it.

Anyway, I think the scene was more about the Driver. It needed to keep the focus on him and the robbers needed to stay in the background. We can assume the robbers had their own getaway plan after leaving the car but we didn’t need to see it.

They were probably nabbed. I hope the Driver got paid up front.

reply

That's a point I forgot to bring up.

Whoever backed this robbery was also behind fencing the loot once it was delivered (probably Bernie himself). This can only happen if Driver successfully extracts the two men from the scene and helps them disappear. If they were nabbed by the cops I doubt that we wouldn't hear about it later in the movie.

I wondered the same thing. He was out of that car FAST and they did not look ready to make a smooth getaway like he did.

I posted a similar question and someone claimed the guy who came up to him in the diner was one of those robbers (actually burglars), but I dunno, doesn't quite match.
